These photos were taken on the freight only line from Skelton Jct. near Altrincham via Northenden Junction to Godley Jct. on the Woodhead line and New Mills Jcn. on the ex Midland line.  At that time there was a constant procession of heavy freight trains.  Nowadays it's a sleepy single line surrounded by motorways.

Now preserved 42965 heads east light engine, probably to Heaton Mersey shed
